The Marble of Our Heroes' Headstones

Serena Altschul traveled to the mountains in Danby, Vermont to see where the marble used in many of our National Cemeteries is found to commemorate our country's war dead.

Baltimore 9/11 Memorial

Ziger/Snead Architects along with Rugo Stone of Lorton, VA have finalized the design for the 9/11 Memorial commemorating and paying tribute to the 63 Marylanders who were killed in the attack on the Twin Towers, The Pentagon and United Flight 93 that went down in Shanksville, PA.

The Memorial will feature a 22 foot long section of steel salvaged from the north tower of New York’s World Trade Center. The artifact is a rust-colored section of columns that were tangled and fused when the north tower was struck. Weighing more than two tons, they came from the building’s 94th to 96th floors. This will sit on a “bed” of Imperial Danby marble from Vermont Quarries Corp. This is the same marble being used for the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, PA.
